Vivox Inc., a Framingham, Mass.-based provider of VoIP services for online games and virtual worlds, has raised $2 million from Peacock Equity. The company previously raised around $20.6 million from Benchmark Capital, Canaan Partners, Grandbanks Capital and IDG Ventures San Francisco.

Interesting move, hope its an up round rather than a convert. Good luck guys…will pass.

Highly-hyped location-based startup Foursquare just closed on a $20 million round of funding at a $95 million pre-money valuation. Andreessen Horowitz led the round, with previous investors O’Reilly AlphaTech and Union Square Ventures also participating. See more

According to Calcalist,Pudding Media, an Israeli mobile advertising startup, faces imminent shut down. Pudding Media let go 25 employees this morning and announced it will cease its operations in Israel. Security software company Bit9 Inc. has taken in $10.1 million in a fourth round of funding, according to federal documents. The Cambridge-based firm has now brought in nearly $36 million in venture backing since it was founded in 2002.

Congrats to Bit9 for their series D.

BOKU Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of a payment service for those making purchases of digital and virtual goods with their mobile phones, has raised an undisclosed amount of new VC funding from Andreessen Horowitz. It previously raised $38 million, including a $25 million in Series C infusion earlier this year from DAG Ventures, Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures and Khosla Ventures. www.boku.com

Lookout, a San Francisco-based provider of smartphone security solutions, has raised $11 million in Series B funding. Accel Partners led the round, and was joined by Khosla Ventures and Trilogy Partnership.

Have heard a fair bit about this company and of course the team being from my alma mater, USC. Definitely deserve a VC crunch.

Heroku, a San Francisco-based provider of a cloud application platform for Rubym, has raised $10 million in Series B funding. Ignition Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers Redpoint Ventures, Baseline Ventures and Harrison Metal Ventures. The company previously raised $3 million

Congrats to Heroku for raising a larger round for a longer run way, they are growing immensely.

VC invested a follow on round of US$1m.

Swipely, a Providence, R.I.-based “online service that gives users an easy way to turn their purchases into conversations,” has raised $7.5 million in Series A funding. Index Ventures led the round, and was joined by Greylock Partners, First Round Capital and individual angels.

This is obviously a direct competitor to Blippy, whether they are first or second or just a complete copy/me too, I am not sure. But based on the team (RI?) and the investors, this company is worth looking into.
